Urban Gateways engages young people in arts experiences to inspire creativity and impact social change. Urban Gateways’ Virtual Programs connect students, educators, parents, and families with arts experiences in a digital environment. Urban Gateways Teaching Artists create arts experiences that introduce creative and innovative ways for parents to connect with their children through artistic practices. Every Urban Gateways program draws connections to the Illinois Arts Standards, ELA, STEM, and SEL components as outlined by CPS. Many of our Teaching Artists also have experience in trauma-informed practices; they are able to create unique arts experiences that incorporate a variety of self-care techniques from meditation to breathing exercises encouraging overall mental health. These parent-specific programs are in addition to and informed by the student- and educator- focused virtual program offerings which include Virtual Arts Learning, Virtual Performances, and Virtual Professional Development.
